Abstract Text:
We present experimental results in which we have separately longitudinally compressed and transversely compressed ion beams by injecting a neutralizing plasma to overcome the significant space charge forces. To achieve warm dense matter conditions with an intense ion beam impinging upon a foil target simultaneous longitudinal and transverse compression is required. Such a demonstration is planned and will be described.
